Function-level monitoring helps financial institutions understand terminal usage, reduce unnecessary cost and track savings
New York, October 29, 2026 – TRG Screen, a provider of market data and subscription cost management solutions, has introduced Activity Monitor, giving financial institutions a clearer picture of how their market data terminals are used and where to find hidden savings.
High-tier market data terminals represent a significant operating expense for financial institutions, yet firms have historically lacked the granular usage data needed to determine whether terminals are being deployed as efficiently as possible. Activity Monitor closes the gap between potential overspend and inefficient utilization and the evidence needed to act on it, enabling market data teams to make defensible license decisions, demonstrate business impact of terminal costs, and negotiate with vendors from a position of strength.
Terminal usage can vary considerably between employees and departments. Activity Monitor goes beyond simply measuring whether a terminal is being used or not to continuously capture detailed, function-level activity. It shows which services are accessed, how frequently and for how long.
It also analyzes usage duration, interactions and data consumption by individual, team or department, and allows for easy tracking of savings realized. Configurable profiling rules allow firms to assess usage in the context of different teams and job functions, helping market data teams identify patterns and prioritize opportunities to reallocate, share, downgrade or remove Bloomberg licenses.
Activity Monitor integrates with TRG Screen's Optimize Spend platform, linking usage data with users, contracts and costs and giving market data teams a single source of truth for prioritizing optimization and savings opportunities. It also allows data export in standard formats for use with other enterprise systems.
Leigh Walters, CEO of TRG Screen said "Financial institutions are under pressure to get more value from their market data spend, reducing costs where they can and freeing up budget to invest elsewhere. But you can’t save what you can’t see. Helping customers make better-informed decisions about their market data expenses is central to our strategy, and Activity Monitor strengthens our ability to do that. You can’t manage terminal expenditure effectively without understanding how employees are actually using the terminals. Once you know that, you’re in a much better position to decide what you really need and what you don’t, and to have more informed conversations with vendors.”
Activity Monitor uses a lightweight desktop agent to capture usage information without accessing sensitive data or interfering with applications. Automated deployment and updates minimize the demands on IT teams and users.
